8 whole eggs
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 Tablespoons vanilla extract
Topping:
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces
freshly grated nutmeg
For serving:
maple syrup, fresh berries, confectioners' sugar
Recipe Instructions
Tear or cut bread into chunks and spread into your USA Pan 9" x 13" pan. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Pour evenly over bread and cover with foil. Refrigerate overnight. For the topping, mix the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, pecans, and some nutmeg in a separate bowl. Stir together. Add the butter and cut it into the mixture until a coarse sand like texture is achieved. Store this in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake your french toast. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Remove the french toast from refrigerator and sprinkle struesel topping over the top. Bake for 1 hour, or more depending on the texture you like. Adding baking time will yield a firmer, crisper french toast. If you prefer yours softer, bake for 45 min. Serve warm with a sprinkle of fresh berries, dusting of confectioners' sugar, and drizzle of maple syrup. ENJOY!!
